Due to the worsening epidemiological situation in Dnipro regarding COVID-19, the event was held in an online format.
1856 runners from 153 cities of Ukraine and participants from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Norway, and Poland took place in the 6th INTERPIPE DNIPRO HALF MARATHON Online. For the first time, over 200 children were participating in an online event. The oldest participant, Mykola Leshchenko, is 72 years old; he is from Mariupol and ran a half-marathon distance. 50 ATO combatants were participating in the event.
Each participant registered for the 6th INTERPIPE DNIPRO HALF MARATHON could run their distance (from 4.2 to 21 km) from November 13 through 21 in any location using any route. This format allows each participant to run their distance and become a part of a large-scale sports event no matter where they are on the day of the event – in Lviv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Odesa, right or left bank of Kyiv. Even though the event takes place online, it has all the attributes – a finish ribbon and a memorable medal.
“It was the hardest decision of the season – canceling the event while it’s only two weeks away, and it felt as if we were back in the spring of 2020. Thank you all for understanding, for going outside and running the 6th INTERPIPE DNIPRO HALF MARATHON 2021 online.
We have already announced the new season, and I hope that we boost our communal immunity by spring and finally have our long-awaited Interpipe Dnipro Half Marathon 2022”, — says Dmytro Chernitskyi, CEO of Run Ukraine.
Representatives of the running club for children with disabilities “Hand by hand” finished a half-marathon within the 6th INTERPIPE DNIPRO HALF MARATHON Online.
Corporate teams also participated in the event. The most numerous team comes from the title partner of the event, “INTERPIPE.” 180 participants ran their distances in Dnipro, Nikopol, and Novomoskovsk.
“For six years in a row, INTERPIPE has been supporting the Dnipro Half Marathon and our running community. We encourage a healthy lifestyle in our staff and fellow city residents as we live and work next to them. The pandemic drew us closer to each other. From the very beginning, our company has been helping hospitals in the city of Dnipro and the region, and 70% of INTERPIPE staff has been vaccinated. We hope that we overcome the pandemic by joining our efforts and meet together for the long-awaited race in May“, — says Liudmyla Novak, Head of Communications Department of INTERPIPE.
Three different heroes became the faces of the 6th INTERPIPE DNIPRO HALF MARATHON 2021 Online: Master of Sports of International Class, participant of the 2012 Olympic Games Ivan Babaryka, amateur runner, ultramarathoner, crane operator Olena Kucher, and Ukrainian paraathlete Viacheslav Kulakovskyi. They have one thing in common – the love of running.
